The Academic Coordinators from La Salle Green Hills (LSGH) conducted a seminar on Understanding by Design (UBD) last February 27, 2010 at the Escuela de Nuestra Señora de La Salette (La Salette School), Tapuac, Dagupan City. Entitled “Let’s UBD-ize”, the LSGH UBD Team was led by their Principal and the current La Salle supervisor for La Salette School, Mr. Jose Ramelle E. Javier. Hosted by La Salette School and sponsored by Phoenix Publishing House, Inc., the said seminar is part of a series of workshops originally intended exclusively for La Salette faculty only. Considering the importance and the timeliness of the activity, the administration led by its President, Dr. Lina Galvan-Tan, decided to open the seminar to the public school system as a way of reaching out to the fellow Dagupeños. As a result, sixty six (66) public school teachers benefitted from the La Salette School-sponsored seminar-workshop. The high-caliber facilitators are renowned UBD experts, Textbook Writers and Academic Coordinators from La Salle Green Hills. They are: Mr. Alex R. Borbon, Mrs. Carol Fermin-Vacunador, Mr. Noel M. Menor, and Mrs. Nenita C. Ajero. The series of seminar-workshops in partnership with La Salle Green Hills is part of the continuing education for faculty to ensure that students in La Salette School are given the best education possible. The UBD seminar aims at equipping the participants with the knowledge and skills necessary in ensuring an effective implementation of the UBD in the classroom. Understanding by Design (UbD) is a framework for improving student achievement which emphasizes on the teacher's critical role as a designer of student learning. As a De La Salle Supervised School, the seminar-workshop is part of La Salette School’s commitment to ensure the best training for its teachers. It is also an enthusiastic response to the Department of Education’s intention of implementing the phase 1 of the UBD in all Philippine schools by next school year. |
