The Kundirana, a famous all-boys high school musical group, caught Dagupan City by storm last year that an encore concert on December 6, 2008 at the Dagupan City People’s Astrodome was inevitable.  The KUNDIRANA encore concert is organized by Escuela de Nuestra Senora de La Salette, a De La Salle Supervised School together with La Salle Green Hills for the benefit of the La Salette Scholarship Program.

The multi-awarded high school musical group from La Salle Green Hills arrived in Dagupan City a day before their scheduled concert and was warmly welcomed with a motorcade around the city.

The Kundirana was also featured by ABS-CBN North Luzon and MOR 94.3 FM after the motorcade and was billeted at the Star Plaza Hotel.

The Kundirana Batch 2008 performers are: Aaron Ilao, Bryan Homecillo, Gabby Gregorio, Jelo Andres, JP Dela Cruz, Keith Quilala, Kevyn Reyes, Philip Tiam Watt, & Mikko dela Cruz.  Supporting the performers were production staff members Ronald Castañeda and Daniel Placido.  The group was chaperoned by La Salle Green Hills Administrators, Mr. Ramelle Javier, Mr. Manny Lahoz, and Mr. Nongnong Calanog.

After the concert, the boy band was warmly welcomed with a dinner hosted by the De La Salle Alumni Association – Pangasinan Chapter led by its President, City Administrator Alvin Fernandez, at the Mayor’s Water Farm.

The Kundirana was formed in 1971 by Br. Rolando R. Dizon FSC, Br. Miguel Q. Rapatan FSC and LSGH music teacher Rose Balana.  Br. Mike coined the word "Kundirana" from two popular Tagalog musical forms, the kundiman (love song) and harana (serenade).  Over the years, the Kundirana has evolved from a regular school choir composed of select, musically gifted and talented high school boys from La Salle Green Hills to a more socially-aware singing group with a ministry of providing goodwill and joy to the less fortunate through the medium of music and the performing arts.

The Kundirana has performed on television, in parks, churches, barnyards, professional theaters, old gyms, and on makeshift stages.  They have been privileged to have shared their ministry before Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa and other world luminaries.  During the summer months of April and May, invitations to visit United States and Guam as performing ambassadors of goodwill are accepted.

In 1985 and 1986, the Kundirana was nationally honored by being given the Aliw Award as Best Cultural Group for its ability in projecting a positive image of the Filipino spirit of sharing and caring.  In 2007, the group received the prestigious Benigno S. Aquino, Sr. Award for Social Artistry.
